Our Princess Is in Another Castle
The Super Mario Bros. catchphrase delivered by Toad after Mario clears each fake castle — and the canonical line for 'you did the work, the prize is somewhere else.'
Origine
In Super Mario Bros. (1985), the player fights through eight castles to rescue Princess Peach. At the end of the first seven, the player is told: 'Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!' The eighth finally pays off. The mistranslated all-caps English (originally a Japanese hand-off) became one of the first widely quoted video-game lines.
Folosire modernă
Standard reference for any anticlimax — completing a milestone only to discover the real goal is still ahead. Used about job searches, app launches, dating, project deliveries. 'The promotion came through, but our princess is in another castle.'
