Eat, Pray, Love
The post-divorce travel-the-world-to-find-yourself template — usually invoked with a small smirk.
Origin
Elizabeth Gilbert's 2006 memoir of a year spent in Italy (eat), India (pray), and Bali (love) after a painful divorce. The book sold more than ten million copies; the 2010 film starring Julia Roberts cemented the title as shorthand for a particular kind of self-discovery sabbatical. Critics noted that the journey required a book advance most people don't have; defenders pointed out that the genre — woman leaves bad situation, recovers self abroad — was overdue and clearly resonated.
Modern usage
'An Eat-Pray-Love trip' is the standard half-mocking, half-envious label for any post-breakup or post-burnout travel sabbatical — yoga retreats in Bali, sourdough courses in Tuscany, ayahuasca in Peru. Often pairs with [[the-secret]] and [[manifesting]] in the broader 2000s wellness-self-help cluster.
