Manifesting
The practice of trying to summon a desired outcome by focusing on it — saying it out loud, writing it down, picturing it.
Origin
The verb form that escaped The Secret and got a second life on TikTok in the late 2010s and early 2020s. Variants proliferate: scripting (writing the outcome as if it already happened), 369 method (writing it three times in the morning, six at noon, nine at night), 'Lucky Girl Syndrome' (declaring you are simply lucky and life rearranges itself). Each cycle finds a new audience.
Modern usage
Now part of casual vocabulary in a way 'the Law of Attraction' never was. 'I manifested this' is a half-serious caption on any pleasant surprise — a job offer, a parking spot, a celebrity sighting. The serious form is still everywhere on wellness TikTok; the ironic form is everywhere else.
