Andrew Tate
The British-American former kickboxer turned manosphere influencer whose hyper-masculine bravado made him a household name among teenage boys — and a defendant in Romanian court.
Origin
Emory Andrew Tate III (b. 1986) was a four-time world kickboxing champion before pivoting to webcam-studio entrepreneur and, from 2021, the dominant figure in 'manosphere' content. His shtick — cigars, Bugattis, traditionalist gender talk, contempt for what he calls the matrix — exploded on TikTok in mid-2022 thanks to short clips engineered to provoke. He was deplatformed across major networks, then arrested in Romania in December 2022 alongside his brother Tristan on charges of human trafficking and forming a criminal group; the case is still grinding through the Romanian courts as of 2026.
Modern usage
His self-applied nickname 'Top G' became sincere praise in teen boy slang and ironic shorthand everywhere else. 'What color is your Bugatti?' (his line dismissing critics) is a meme reply to any unsolicited advice. Parents, teachers, and journalists invoke him as the avatar of a worrying shift in young-male media diets. Whether he's the cause or just the symptom of that shift is the unresolved debate.
In the wild
Half the boys in the class quote him without realizing where it's from.— school reporting
