Membership Terms

What always stays free

Browsing, Reels, Search, and the entire current catalog of entries, definitions, and translations are free for everyone, with no account required, under the Creative Commons license described on the Terms & License page. A Creative Commons license cannot be revoked, so that content can never be moved behind a paywall later. Membership only adds new features; it never takes anything away from the free site.

What membership includes

Membership unlocks premium features as they become available, which may include:

• Handcrafted illustrations for entries.
• Advanced visualization modes, such as the 2.5D explorable view.
• Quizzes and other interactive ways to learn.
• Further premium features added over time.

We describe premium features as accurately as we can, but they are offered on an "as available" basis and may evolve. You'll see what's included before you subscribe.

Your account

Membership requires an account that is personal to you. Keep your login details secure, give accurate information, and don't share your account or let others use it. You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian's consent. You're responsible for activity under your account.

Prices, billing, and renewal

The price and billing period are shown before you pay. Membership is a recurring subscription: it renews automatically at the end of each period, and your payment method is charged for the next period until you cancel. Payments are handled by our third-party payment processor ([PAYMENT PROCESSOR]); we don't store your full card details. Prices are shown in [CURRENCY] and include any applicable VAT or taxes unless stated otherwise. We may change prices, but a change takes effect only at your next renewal and we'll give you reasonable notice first, so you can cancel before it applies.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, and you won't be charged again after that. Cancelling stops future renewals; on its own it doesn't refund the current period — see your withdrawal and refund rights below.

Right of withdrawal (EU/EEA consumers)

If you're a consumer in the EU or EEA, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital services and receive a refund. Because membership gives you immediate access to digital content, by subscribing and starting to use premium features you expressly ask us to begin straight away and acknowledge that you lose your 14-day right of withdrawal once access has started. If you haven't yet started using premium features, you can still withdraw within 14 days for a full refund by contacting us.

Refunds

Aside from the withdrawal right above and any rights you have under consumer law, payments for a period already started are generally non-refundable. If something goes wrong on our side, get in touch — we'll always try to be fair, and nothing here limits the refunds or remedies the law gives you.

Your license to premium content

Unlike the free catalog, premium content — handcrafted illustrations, advanced visualizations, quizzes, and the software that runs them — is not offered under Creative Commons. All rights are reserved. While your membership is active, you get a personal, limited, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and enjoy premium content for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

• copy, download beyond the ordinary use of a feature, redistribute, sell, or publish premium content;
• use premium content commercially or to build a competing product;
• share your access, scrape it, or get around any access controls.

Acceptable use and suspension

Please use membership fairly and lawfully. We may suspend or end your membership if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, abuse the service, or don't pay. Where it's fair to do so we'll warn you first, and if we end your membership through no fault of yours we'll refund any period you've paid for but can no longer use.

Changes to premium features

Premium features are offered on an "as available" basis, and we may add, change, or retire individual premium features over time. If we permanently remove a significant feature you're paying for without offering a fair equivalent, you can cancel and we'll refund the unused part of your current period. This applies to premium features only — it never affects the free catalog.

Guarantees and liability

Paid digital services come with the statutory guarantees provided by applicable consumer law — for example, that the service matches its description and is supplied with reasonable care and skill — and we don't exclude those. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you in connection with the membership is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Who you're contracting with

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in, and you can bring proceedings there. EU consumers can also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

Changes to these terms

We may update these membership terms. If a change materially affects you, we'll give you reasonable notice before it takes effect — for example by email or a notice on the site — and it will apply from your next renewal. Continuing to use your membership after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
